Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in China in September, and the first phones featuring it were released. Now, the tech world is abuzz with news of the imminent arrival of a new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
First Phones to Feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
According to reliable leakster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is scheduled to be unveiled at the end of November. Furthermore, the first two phones featuring this chip are expected to launch later that month.
DCS has hinted at the specifications of the first two devices to feature the new chipset. The first phone to use this chip is said to have a flat screen, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a massive battery of approximately 8,000mAh. Based on recent leaks, this device is likely the OnePlus Ace 6 Pro Max.
The second phone will be a compact model focused on cameras. The device is said to feature a mid-range Sony IMX8 series periscope telephoto camera and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded in a flat screen. This model is speculated to be the Vivo S50 Pro Mini.
DCS also added that it expects brands like Meizu (Meizu 23), iQOO (iQOO Z11 Turbo series), and Motorola (Edge 70 Ultra) to announce Snapdragon 8 Gen 5-powered devices soon. Industry reports suggest that models like the Oppo K15 Turbo Pro and Honor GT 2 will also use this new chip.
According to leaked technical details, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which will be produced using TSMC’s N3P manufacturing process, boasts impressive specs. It features two dual-core clusters clocked at 3.8 GHz and six performance cores clocked at 3.32 GHz. The graphics side will be powered by an Adreno 840 GPU clocked at approximately 1.2 GHz.
In early tests, this chip reportedly achieved a score of around 3.3 million points in AnTuTu; it also reportedly reached around 3,000 points in Geekbench 6’s single-core test and 10,000 points in the multi-core test. In graphics tests, it reportedly approached 100 fps in the Aztec 1440p benchmark.
These scores suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is on par with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in terms of CPU capabilities. While GPU performance is marginally lower, it is expected to offer overall better power efficiency and sustained performance.
